Cha-Rie

Cha-Rie Tang is the founder of Pasadena Craftsman Tile, she is an architect, artisan, designer, and public artist. While always fascinated with ceramics and sculpture, Cha-Rie came to tile making by happy accident when a friend stumbled across original Ernest Batchelder plaster molds buried in his yard. Now many years later her passion for ceramics has grown as well as her desire to share it with her clients and customers.

Cha-Rie's public art commissions span Los Angeles and Orange County and include the Monrovia Gold Line Metro stop, Pasadena’s A.R.T. Bus, the City of Los Angeles Public Library at Exposition Park, Los Angeles County Kenneth Hahn Hall of Administration, and the City of Mission Viejo Arts Alive Festivals. 

Cha-Rie received a B.S from MIT and her M.Arch from The University of Colorado Boulder.

Mei-Ling

Mei-Ling (Cha-Rie's daughter) grew up in Pasadena, saturated in the arts. She studied printmaking and painting in college, going on to receive a masters degree in interior architecture. She worked for many years as a graphic designer before joining her mother's company, and enjoys woodworking in her spare time.

Mei-Ling received a BFA from The Cooper Union, and a Master of Interior Architecture from UCLA - Cal Poly Pomona. 

OUR PROCESS

All of our tiles are made to order, whether you chose from our selection of slip cast tiles, or decide to commission a custom carving, everything is made specifically for your project. We also offer comprehensive design services if you need help getting started.

Our studio is in Pasadena California. While we don't have a showroom, we accept appointments. Send us an email If you would like to drop by. 

DESIGN

We love working on-on-one with clients, whether you're local, or overseas.  We offer design services to help you realize the perfect design for your home or business.

To begin, we use the measurements you provide, as well as photos of your existing conditions, to draw up a tile plan for your approval.

MADE TO ORDER

Once you're happy with the design, we start making your tile. The size of your project, and the type of tile you order affects lead time, but most standard sized fireplaces are ready to ship in 6-8 weeks.

layout

As part of our design service, we layout your project in our studio to make sure everything is in its right place and the color blends are balanced.  Once you approve of the layout, we box it up and send it to you via Freight or USPS for smaller orders.
